Our Beliefs

The Bible is the final authority in all matters of belief and practice.

Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His death, burial and resurrection.

The local church has Jesus Christ as the head and we answer to Him.

Every born-again believer has direct access to God.

Two symbolic ordinances; full-immersion believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper

Soul competency; every person is responsible to God for his choices and must freely chose Christ

Two offices in the church; pastor (elder, bishop, overseer) and deacon

Separation of Church and State

Calvary Baptist Church follows the Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention

FAQ

Let's answer some of those questions.  We want you to feel welcomed and comfortable when you visit. Knowing as much as possible before you arrive will go a long way to get you there.

What am I supposed to wear?

Most churches today don't have a real "dress code."  At Calvary we want you to visit with us and we are happy to see you when you arrive.  Some of our members like to wear suits, some are very comfortable in jeans.  Our pastor wears jeans and suit jacket or cardigan sweater most Sundays.  Please dress as you normally do and don't worry that you won't fit in, you will.

What happens when I walk in the door?

When you walk into the building there will be someone who will open the door for you and pleasantly greet you.  He might be distracted talking to someone and not open the door.  There will be another nice person who hands you what we call a "bulletin."  There will be several people standing around talking.  The room we meet it right ahead.  People mark their spots with their coat or bible so find an empty spot and claim it.  You may sit where you'd like.  The back rows fill up quickly.

What is the meeting like?

There is a mixture of prayer, singing, Bible reading and preaching.  The songs are old classic church songs we call hymns.  The music is provided by a pianist.  The group sometimes stands together to sing.  The lyrics are i a book we call a hymnal (they are easy to use).  There are Bible's in the racks on the back of the church pews for your use.  The pastor will present a message from the Bible text that will last approximately 30 minutes.  This presentation will be compelling, relevant, applicable and inspiring.  You will not be called upon to do anything outloud and we will not draw attention to you.
